Zelda II
Locations of the dolls
Sent in by Albert Calis
1.) In Moruge Swamp, go one step down and one step left of the boulder.
2.) The cemetery around Kings Tomb, go by the big bridge and walk along
the coast.
3.) Eastern Hyrule, in the desert near the big bridge to Big Island. Walk to
the bottom edge of the desert, just before you hit the ocean.
4.) The desert strip south of the Island Palace. Walk along the strip till you find it.
5.) Swamp north of Kasuto. It's on the left edge by the mountains.
6.) There's one in the 6th Palace (Triple Eye Rock)
7 & 8.) Two dolls can be found in the Great Palace.
Heart Containers
Sent in by Albert Calis
1.) Go south of Parapa Palace. You will find a path that leads you to a
small patch of forest surrounding a small field. The small field takes
you to a battle scene where the heart lies. There's also an orange Goriya
guarding it. The path has one tile that is a battle scene which you need to
jump over chasms of water with acid bubbles rising up.
2.) Go south of the town of Rauru, where you will find a cave blocked by a
boulder. Knock down the boulder with a hammer, and the heart container is inside.
3.) In the town of Nabooru in Eastern Hyrule, there's a house with a bat
on the ceiling. Talk to him and he responds only with "..." however talk to
him 3 more times, and he will reveal to you the location of the 3rd heart
you find, which is over the ocean, but where? Walk on the path east of
Nabooru after you acquired the magic boots, and you will walk over the
water, to the 5th Palace. Walk west from the palace till you go to a place
where you can walk up. Walk up 2-3 steps and then walk east again, you
will end up just north of the palace where you will enter a scene, similar
to the swamp battle scenes. You will then see a small platform, and the
heart is there.
4.) In the town of New Kasuto, talk to the wall in an empty house and it
will tell you that something is "East of Triple-Eye Rock at seashore."
Walk east of the Three-Eye Rocks to the shore and you will find the
last heart there.
Magic Containers
Sent in by Albert Calis
1.) Go south of Hyrule Castle to find a cave. Inside the cave is a magic container.
2.) Walk through the caves of Death Mountain, to the cave where you find
the Hammer. Next to the cave is a stray boulder. Knock it down after acquiring
the hammer and step on where it stood, and you will fall down a chasm. At the
bottom of the chasm you will find the magic container.
3.) Walk across the big bridge to Big Island. Go to the very far left side of
the island, and walk the path, and you will find a chasm, similar to on Death
Mountain. At the bottom is a magic container.
4.) NOTE: You can only acquire this magic container after you have collected
the previous 3!!! Go to New Kasuto and talk to an old lady in blue who walks
out of her house. She will tell you that you deserve her help and to follow
her into her house. Walk in and down the hallway, where you will find a
basement. The magic container is inside. If you talk to her without collecting
the previous 3 magic containers, she will tell you "Did you find the 7 magic
Containers?" and won't invite you in.
Freakypalace and Freakytown Part 2
Sent in by Jonny B
Freakytown also works in the Harbor Town of Mido. You need the
mega-jump game genie code, though (AZUOLIAL). cast the jump spell
and jump on the church, and then off-screen, and from there, the same
rules apply when doing the freakytown trick. The same results occur.
For freakypalace, I've discovered that it also works on other palaces as
well. These are the results: If done on palace 2, it will take you to palace 1.
If done on Palace 3, it takes you to Palace 3. If done on Palace 5, it takes
you to Palace 1, and if done on Palace 6 it takes you to Palace 3.
Every time I've tested it on Palace 4 and the great palace (these two
can only be done with the mega jump game genie code), I've only got
rejected from the palace, but nothing else. I'm still working on it, though.
Other affects of Freakypalace
Before you enter a freakypalace, you must collect the item and place the
gem in the stone in the original palace first. Otherwise, you'll get the
freakypalace item, and you'll place the gem in the freakypalace stone.
Other nasty affects include the original palace turning into rock, making
it impossible to place all your gems in the stones thus cannot get into the
great palace. If this happens, simply hit the reset button without saving.
Easy way to beat Palace 2
Sent in by Jonny B
After you beat the first palace, don't go to the second palace, yet. Instead,
go through death mountain and acquire the hammer first. This allows you
to get the 6th magic and life containers, and downstab, and of course,
the medicine you get in a blocked cave which gets you the fairy spell.
Now, you are all powered up for Palace 3, but you can now beat Palace 2
much more easily.
Change the way Link looks
Sent in by Justin
This glitch makes Link turn into this weird, greenish-white color. Go to
any town and get on life (it might work with other spells). Go to the lady
that refills your magic. Talk to her and right at the second you go into
her house use life. If you did it right, once Link comes out he'll be
green-white. Once you leave the screen he changes back to normal.
Where is the hammer?
Sent in by Seth Ascher
The hammer is in death mountain. To get there you must cross the bridge
in the town south of the 2nd palace. To cross the bridge you must wander
around the forest north of the town for a while. There you will find Bagu.
Bagu will make the bridge appear. Cross the bridge and enter the cave in
front of you. Once in death mountain go south or east at every junction.
You will reach the southernmost end of death mountain. Go west and
there is a cave near a boulder. Inside is the hammer.
Geting experience points
Sent in by Mark
While your walking in the swamp, let the demon hit you then kill all of
the Octorok's. Jump all the way over to the far left of that screen kneel
down a swing away at the moby's. This provides all of the experience
points needed to beat this game. (The max handle works wonders in this
tip.) Use a pice of duct tape to cover up the down arrow on the D-Pad and
also on the turbo B button.
Freakypalace
Sent in by JJ
You remember Freakytown? Well, this is how to get to Freakypalace!
This tip will make the game easier to play.
In Third Eye Rock (the purple palace), go to the endless trap. When you
jump in the hole, jump as far to the right as you can. Try to land on top
of the ceiling of the next screen you will fall in. This may take a
little practice, but it is possible!
When you're on top of the ceiling, use Jump. When you're not on the
screen anymore, use Fairy (the same trick as in Freakytown). You
will fall and get to the elevator at the beginning of the palace. Go
down, and you'll see that you're in a Third Eye Rock version of the
red palace! (the third one) The boss is Rebonack (the Ironknuckle on
the horse), which is easier to kill than Barba, the original boss! Just
kill him, go to the statue, place the crystal and Third Eye Rock has
turned into a rock!
Just one tip: Use this trick after you found the cross. There might be
a raft hidden in Freaky Palace instead of the cross, and it's very hard
to get through Maze Island without the cross!
Also, I'm not quite sure if this trick works in every chamber of the
Endless Trap. It did work in the third chamber (the one you use to get
to Barba), but I haven't tried this in the other three chambers.
Fighting your shadow
Sent in by Lee Honeycutt
To beat your Shadow, crouch down in the lower left had corner and swing
your sword at your shadow rapidly. This is always a sure-fire way to
win, as long as you have at least 1 block of life, because he may be able
to press up and hit you once or twice if he's lucky.
Skip the battle tile
Sent in by Sean Zizman
When travelling in some parts of the map, you'll normally have to cross a
tile that will always take you to a difficult battle scene that you have to
get through in order to proceed any further, like on the path to the final
palace. The trick is to let a monster attack you as you start to walk on
these tiles, you'll end up going into a less difficult fight scene and when
you finish, you'll find yourself standing on the unpassible tile allowing
you to pass over it more easily.
Location of three of the spells
Sent in by Mike Waters
Reflect: In the 6th town, there is a woman whose kid was kidnapped. Go
to the maze leading to the maze palace, and check along for caves. In one
of them is a magic container, and the kid is in the other. Go back and talk
to the old woman, and she will lead you to an old man who will teach you
the spell of reflect. Block magic from wizrobes with your shield with
the reflect spell and you will bounce them back. You'll need this spell to
beat Karock in the maze palace.
Spell: You must first find the hidden town of Kasuto first. It is under some
trees in the upper right of part 2 of the game. Use your hammer to knock
down trees. When you find the town, there will a house with no one in it.
Go into the fireplace to meet the old man. The magic Spell allows you to
transform strong enemies into weak ones. Plus, go to the edge of the hidden
Kasuto town and use the magic Spell to reveal a small cave. Inside is the
magical key, which can be used infinitely.
Thunder: To the west of Third Eye Rock palace is another town of Kasuto.
This one is almost completely deserted, except for one old man in one of
the houses. Be careful in this town, as there are floating blue eyes
everywhere. You can't see them without the cross from Three Eye Rock
palace. The old man teaches you Thunder, the most powerful of the spells.
You need this spell to kill Thunderbird in the Great Palace. Cast thunder
on Thunderbird to turn it blue and reveal its head, then continue striking
it in the head to kill it. If you are killed by your shadow and start from the
entrance to the Great Palace, when you get to where Thunderbird is, it will
still be dead and you can go right to your shadow.
Fly through the locked gates
Sent in by Dana Cain
In the evil palaces (castles) I have noticed that if Link does not have a
key to enter a locked gate he may not pass through. Then I noticed
that with the fairy spell that Link, in fairy form, can fly through
the locked gates even if he does not have a key. To get out of fairy
form just go into the next screen past the screen with the locked
gate and Link is back in normal form. If Link becomes trapped
between two gates with no keys or magic power, press up and the
A button on the second Controller to save or continue the game.
Locations of five of the spells
Sent in by Dana Cain
Here are the locations of five of the spells.
Shield-Go to Rauru and talk to the girl in the blue dress that is walking
outside of her house. She will take Link to the wise man that teaches him
the spell.
Jump-Go to Ruto and find the girl that is missing the trophy, then
find the trophy and give it to the girl. The trophy is in the cave
found in the desert northwest of Rauru.
Life-Go to Saria and find the girl that is missing her Mirror, then
find the Mirror and give it to the girl. The Mirror is under the table
of a house nearby. To pick up the Mirror just duck down by the
table and press the B button.
Fairy-Go to Mido and find the old lady wearing blue and tells Link
that she needs the Water of Life. Then find the Water of Life and
give it to the old lady. The Water of Life is in a cave in the swamp
south of Ruto.
Fire-Go to Nabooru and find the girl that tells Link that she
is thirsty. Then go to the fountain that is closest to her house
and press the B button. Once this has been done go back to
the girl and give her the water.
Fighting Ironknuckle
Sent in by Joshulator@aol.com
Sometimes you can get rid of Ironknuckle very fast by knocking
him off his horse near the left side of the screen. After that is
done get in a downthrust technique and hold down when your
on Ironknuckle's head (You should be facing the wall and he should
be right under you facing the same wall). If it works you'll drain his
life in about 10 seconds when he lowers his shield.
Freakytown
Sent in by Gillian Kinney
Go to Darunia and find the tallest building in town. (It's the section
of town in which you can walk on the rooftops.) Cast Jump and leap onto
the top of said building; equip Fairy (but don't use it yet). Jump off
the top of the screen, use Fairy while you can't see Link, and press
left or right on the control pad. Link will fall into another town!
This is basically a composite of "town" images from the game's graphics
files. And now...the fun!!!
Enter the building with an open door to get a different town scene with
different music. Keep going in the open-door building when you see it.
After you enter said building two or three times, the town background
will change when you walk around! You'll see multicolor buildings and
bushes (and sometimes you might even get a pink-and-white cloud!) Talk
to some of the people; they'll say different things. Remember how some
townspeople in the game turn into bats? Well, sometimes here you'll
get one that can't be killed.
One major caveat: Do NOT walk off the righthand side of the screen
(through the gray gate) at any point after you've magically left
Darunia. You'll be stuck in the middle of the ocean off of Maze Island
and have to restart the game to get out. To leave Freakytown, walk
off the lefthand side of the screen. And here's another caveat: the
mode may not shut off completely after you exit Strangeville. I've
fallen and died a few times trying to jump back down the cliffs (along
the path to Darunia) because I couldn't tell where the gaps were.
There's a way to get around that. Just draw out enemies and collide
with one as you step into the square with the cliffs; you'll just fight
enemies and not have to do any serious leaping. Also do this en route
to the Great Palace.
Geting extra lives
Sent in by Gillian Kinney
One huge problem with this game is that Link dolls, once collected,
never again reappear during the "life" of your character. Here's
what I mean by that. Let's say you create Character Y, play through
the game, and grab a Link doll in Moruge Swamp. You use up your
lives and continue. If you go to Moruge to collect the doll
again...tough luck! It's gone! Forever! I don't know why on earth
the game was programmed this way, but...there is a reliable way to
build up extra lives.
Your character must have all Levels at 8. The experience display will
show the "NEXT" value as 9000. From then on, every 9000 experience
points will net you...an extra life!!! Your life or magic (whatever
you pick; don't bother with attack because it won't do anything) will
also fill up. I wonder if they did this to make up for the cheesy doll
policy...
Killing the bosses
Sent in by Jonny B
I've killed all the bosses with a level 1 attack before, so I think these
hints should help you.
Boss 1: When he moves closer to you, jump forward and slash him in the
head. The momentum should push you and the boss back enough so that he
can't hit you with his mace. Repeat the process. If done quickly, you can
kill him in about 30 seconds.
Boss 2: You want the downstab to make this boss more easy. After both
his heads pop off, just mearly downstab him to death. Plain and simple.
Boss 3: Use your jump spell and downstab him when he is on the screen.
When you knock him off his horse, treat him like an ironknuckle (jump,
thrust, jump, thrust, etc.)
Boss 4: This is self-explanatory. Just have enough magic to use your
reflect spell.
Boss 5: Use your jump spell to avoid his huge mace, and stab him in the
gut or feet in between mace shots. (it hurts, too, so use shield if this
is too tough).
Boss 6: I love this boss for so many reasons (probably because there are
so many ways to kill him). I only attack him only when he pops up in
the middle lava hole. You should be standing to the right of this hole. His
jaw will be close enough to land so that you can upstab him to death
(avoid his fireballs when he opens his mouth). If you really want to be
fancy, use the Jump spell and downstab his head. Don't miss! Lava baths
are not a pleasant experience!
Boss 7: Thunder, then attack his head while avoiding his fireballs. Use
jump spell to ease the trouble of hitting him.
Boss 8: Your shadow was a waste of a last boss I think. Just stab his
feet when you are in the left corner.
Sent in by Gillian Kinney
Level 1 (Horsehead) Use Shield; crouch to avoid his mace; jump up and
smack him in the head.
Level 2 (Helmethead) Use Shield and Jump; keep whacking him in the head
till he croaks. Watch out for the helmets flying around the screen.
Level 3 (Rebonack) Use Shield; downward-thrust the Ironknuckle to
unseat him; beat the tar out of him the same way you do other
Ironknuckles.
Level 4 (Carock) This is a joke. Use Shield and Reflect; crouch in the
lefthand corner facing right. Don't do a thing. He kills himself.
Level 5 (Gooma) Use Shield and Jump; avoid his mace; leap up and hit him
in the head.
Level 6 (Barba) Use Shield, Jump, and Reflect; get yourself onto the
righthand platform (you can beat him quicker if you stand in the
middle, but it's a lot easier to fall and die); jump up and smack Barba
in the face when he comes up on your side.
Freakytown tricks
Sent in by Eric Kilian
Once you are in "Freakytown", you'll notice something. The background
changes. In fact, it looks like it's downright decaying. Decaying
into program code, letters, numbers, and colors. Okay. But, you
will notice, after your character passes an area, the area will return
to normal. So, once you pass the door, you will be able to enter it
as normal. And, you may have guessed, you will appear back at the
beginning of "Freakytown". Alright. Do this several more times, and
you will fall. Fall where? Why, right back into the town, of course.
Keep walking to the right, and you will notice THERE IS NO GROUND.
Sure, it looks like grass, but you fall through it as if it were thin
air. You can keep falling all the way to the right, and the town will
repeat endlessly, I believe. Or, you can turn into a fairy, and fly
endlessly to the right. When you want to exit what can only be termed
as "Ultrafreakytown", simply fly all the way to the left. Now,
however, there is a problem. You have cursed the land. Everywhere you
go, the area will advance once through its normal pattern. After this,
however, nothing changes except one thing: you now fall through
everything as if this was all just some pastel stage-set. You can
keep on falling as long as you want to, all the way to the right.
And it never ends. It's sort of like what happens in Super Mario
Bros. when you jump over the flagpole using the Game Genie. Hmm, you
say. How do I get out of here? It's hard. I think if you fly (or
fall) all the way to the left, you can exit. At any rate, the entire
game is now like this. Seeing as you have immediate access to said
game, and mine is at home, you might want to experiment here. Oh, and
while you're at it, here's a variation of "Freakytown". Do the same
fairy trick you used to get into "Freakytown" in the first place. The
only catch is, you need to do it somewhere else. I think it's one
full screen (you know, one series of walls with doors in them) to the
left of "Freakytown". Now, you will fall back into Darunia, sure,
but it's a pretty screwy Darunia. Once again, it is decaying. And,
once again, you have cursed the land. Everywhere you go will now be
decaying, I believe. These tricks may not be entirely accurate,
since I haven't played the game seriously in about 5 or 6 years.
Reset the game
During a game pause and on Controller 2 press Up and A to exit
the game.
Give castle experience points to another game
Beat a palace on any file and as the experience points are rising,
quickly use the game exit trick above and save. Choose a new
character and this character will receive the experience points
intended for the other character.
Upward attack
To discover the art of the upward attack, go to
Darunia and use the Jump spell to leap up to the
house with a chimney. Drop down this and go right
to find a knowledgeable warrior.

Freakytown

Game Genie codes
Sent in by Tony Hedstrom
XTSSTKSE Get 256 level-up points for most enemies that you kill.
This lets you level-up very fast!
ALSSTKSA Get 18,532 level-up points for most enemies that you kill!
This allows you to go up several levels with the first enemy that you kill!
The code is a little glitchy though. After a certain point, it will stop giving
you any points.
AAPETY You can walk across water and over mountains!
AAOETYZA The 8 letter version of the above code
PPUOLIAL Super mega jump
AAUOLIAL Super mega jump with zero gravity moon float!
